Miscarriage

Dear Parents,

The loss of a child is one of the most traumatic losses that one can experience in life. The grief that accompanies your loss is unique to you. Society has often minimized or ignored the loss and grief that families have experienced through miscarriage. In the past, mothers and fathers were often expected to move past their grief while little attention was focused on the reality at hand: the death of their child.

If you have recently experienced the loss of your child through miscarriage, this page is for you. More comprehensive information is in development, but in the meantime the following pages provide immediate resources about burial options and counseling.

While it may not always be possible to keep the remains for burial, as is sometimes the case with miscarriage early in pregnancy, they should be given a worthy burial, if possible. Burial of the dead is a corporal work of mercy (see Catechism of the Catholic Church, #2447). Delivery aids and burial kits may be helpful and can be found at Elizabeth Ministry: www.elizabethministry.com.

Below you will find resources for parents who have experienced the loss of their child through miscarriage, stillborn and deceased infants.
